With a national network of branches and distribution centres, Steel & Tube engages in markets and projects across infrastructure, construction (commercial and residential), heavy and light engineering, energy, manufacturing, viticulture and rural sectors. At any one time the division will have up to 400 active projects, so this is a busy, high throughput, make-to-order operation. What will you be doing? Reporting to the National Manufacturing Manager, you will be accountable for day to day production at Steel & Tube’s Wellington Reinforcing plant. You will oversee machine maintenance, truck loading, inventory management, and daily operations. Bigger picture, your key responsibilities will include:Ensuring daily production requirements are achieved to meet customer expectations and in line with safety, quality, cost and delivery parameters in alignment with organisational wide objectives.Continuously identify and implement opportunities for improvement: processes, quality and cost management.Providing leadership, direction, support and training of on-site staff and ensuring appropriate resources (labour, equipment and raw materials) are available to achieve production demand. Be actively involved in recruitment, performance reviews and staff development.Ensuring that Health & Safety remains a top priority through appropriate ongoing training, zero tolerance to unsafe work practices and positive reinforcement to ‘do the right thing’. Who are we looking for? We seek candidates with the following:Manufacturing experience. You’ve worked in a number of production environments giving you breadth of experience working with a variety of manufacturing machines and processes.Proven leadership abilities that encourage ideas and contribution and create a positive achievement and learning environment.Practical and hands-on. Much of your time will be spent on the floor engaging with your team and you’re prepared to roll your sleeves up and get stuck in as required.Proficient in ASA Software.Ability to make decisions and follow through.
