We are now seeking an enthusiastic, motivated and experienced lawyer to join our team as our newest Senior Legal Counsel.You will have had exposure in commercial and corporate law, including listing rules, and the knack for building trust with Board’s and Executive team’s.Your advanced problem-solving, commercial acumen and strong supplier management skills are crucial, along with effective communication and negotiation abilities.This role offers an exciting career progression pathway with opportunities to take on increased responsibilities and a leadership role as the company continues to grow and expand.As our trusted advisor your responsibilities will be to:Provide support to the Company Secretary and Board ensuring best practice corporate governance is maintained.Assist the General Counsel with major projects and strategic initiatives.Provide comprehensive commercial advice and legal guidance to CEO, senior management, and project managers across various areas including competition law, and intellectual property.Handle contract negotiation, and drafting, supporting junior team members.Manage instructions to external law firms and the dissemination of advice to the key internal stakeholders.You will have the opportunity to apply your skills and expertise across a board range of practice areas including:Lead policy development, legislative compliance and legal trainingAdvise procurement and digital teams on supply and vendor contracts, ensuring compliance.Manage preliminary contract disputes to mitigate litigation risks.Guide on property negotiations and provide advisory support to location managers.Offer expertise in banking, insurance and contribute to strategic planning.Provide counsel on health and safety compliance and support workplace incident investigations.Experience & skill-set requirements:Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience in commercial legal context covering a range of practice areasPrivate practice and/or in-house legal counsel experienceExperience with commercial negotiationsProven ability to connect and develop mutual trust with a broad range of managers and other staffExcellent time management, prioritisation and efficient work practicesExperience in construction contracts is a plusAbout us: With over 70 years of proud service, Steel & Tube is a cornerstone of New Zealand's industrial landscape.
